How the maths works

Fees = sale price × (selling fee % + payment fee %) + fixed fee. Payout is the sale price minus fees. Net profit is the payout minus what you paid, the postage you cover and any other costs. ROI compares profit with what you paid; margin compares it with the sale price.

Break-even is the sale price where profit is exactly zero once fees come off. The target price works the same way, with the profit you want added to your costs.

Common questions

Do private sellers pay eBay fees in the UK?

Private sellers in the UK don't pay a final value fee on most items, including trainers and clothes. Business sellers do, and the rate depends on the category.

Should I include postage?

If the buyer pays postage, leave it at 0. If you offer free postage, enter what it costs you to send, because it comes out of your profit.
